Gantry Access System
iMS Access Services were approached by the client to design a safe means of access to the high level lighting and radiant heating system.
The client was originally paying contractors to maintain the radiant heating system and lighting yearly, this required them to clear the entire floor of gym equipment in order for them to bring in their access equipment. |
iMS Access Services have ingeniously designed a working gantry system which is suspended from i-Beams located at each end of the gantries, the gantry system is able to run the full length of the sports hall and gymnasium, without the need for scissor lifts.
|
This new travelling gantry system has removed the need for carrying out all of the removal and emptying of the gymnasium and sports hall.
This investment will have paid for itself within 3 years. |
Health and Safety Aspects
The two 17 metre gantries have been designed identically so that both have the same safety features.
Our first priority was access, how do you access a gantry safely, that is suspended 10 metres high. The gantry features a hatch located on the floor of the gantry, this accessed by a bespoke ladder with hooks which enables it to be attached securely to the underside of the gantry. |
Using the bespoke ladder operatives are able to safely climb and clip onto the safety rescue device, this is used as a fall protection device, the operative will then open the hatch and use the safety eye bolt located close to the handles.
Safety eyebolts are then located in every section of the gantry so that operatives can carry out works safely and effectively. |
Both gantry systems also feature a hop-up which is used to reach high areas easier, the hop-up features a floor hatch, and an attachment point, as well as safety pins to secure the hop-up in place.
Lined with rubber on the underside it has a high coefficient of friction, so there is a very low percentage of movement when mounted. |
